Football season is here and so are the tasty tailgate snacks. Are you searching for a healthy AND delicious snack to enjoy while cheering on your favorite team? I’ve got you covered with this Healthier Buffalo Chicken Dip that will surely impress your guests and have you feeling guilt-free. Buffalo chicken dip is always one of the most popular dips making appearances on almost every tailgate spread and for good reasons… IT IS DELICIOUS!

Over the years I have become very picky about buffalo chicken dip – The consistency, the ingredients, the sides for dipping…
Like many of you, I love game days, but what I enjoy most is making a big game day spread. Dips are always a staple, but they are full of cheese and many hidden ingredients that leave you feeling blah just hours later. Since being diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis in 2020 (you can read about that here), I have been making an effort to cut back on dairy and processed foods to help with the inflammation in my hands. Sadly, I have noticed a difference which is why I have been working on healthier alternatives to enjoy on game day.
This Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe contains the creamy consistency of a dip, while omitting the cream cheese found in many game day snacks. AND it has the right amount of spice, but won’t leave your mouth on fire.
A buffalo chicken dip without cream cheese? Can you believe it?
Are you drooling yet?

This recipe is easy to make and comes together in no time. Let’s break down some tips so you can make this recipe at home:
- Cook and shred your own chicken. Opt to make your own chicken rather than using canned chicken. If you’re trying to save some time, an alternative option is a rotisserie chicken from the store. Shred up roughly 2 cups and you’re all set.
- Sub Greek yogurt for ranch of blue cheese which are traditionally found in buffalo chicken dips. Once baked, you won’t even know the difference.
- Shred your own cheese. Many pre-grated cheeses contain preservatives to keep them from clumping together in the bag. Blocks of cheese do not contain these same preservatives. Tip: freshly grated cheese also melts better. We all want that ooey gooey cheesy bite!
- Serve with a mixture of chips and freshly cut veggies. There is no wrong way to eat buffalo chicken dip and we all love the crunch that comes with every cheesy bite. To allow for healthier options, serve some with some cucumber, carrot, and celery slices. They are just as tasty as tortilla chips.

I always rely on my friends and family to give me their honest opinion of recipes before sharing with all of you and this one passed with flying colors. In fact, I made this recipe for my friends and they did not know the difference. I dare you to serve this recipe for your friends and see if they notice the difference. Don’t forget to come back and let me know what you think! 😉
Go Sports… and better yet, happy snacking!
