Well it’s not National Margarita Day without a margarita recipe. These Spicy Blood Orange Margaritas with Homemade Dried Citrus are something to write home about. The beautiful color of the blood orange draws you into the glass. Not only is this citrusy, but it’s refreshing and full of flavor. Add a fresh slice of jalapeno for fun spicy twist. Don’t forget to garnish with a fresh blood orange slice or lovely homemade dried citrus slice, some jalapenos, and of course a lime.

Blood oranges are typically in season from December through May. Whenever they are in season, they are my go-to for any cocktail. In my opinion, they are the most unique type of orange. If you have never tried a blood orange, they have a raspberry-like taste in addition to the citrus. They are beautiful to use in salads, cocktails or even in sorbet. Sometimes I’m luck enough to find blood orange juice during off season so I can still enjoy an occasional refreshing cocktail.

How to make the perfect salty rim:
One of my favorite things about a margarita is the salty rim. But not just any salty rim, I like to add a little zest from the citrus to add a little extra flavor to the salt.
